Sheri Anstedt
"At age three, I remember painting at an easel. At age five, I was in my first official art show. No matter what, art has been there — and been a part of me — my entire life. Art has enabled me to get quiet and go within, to let something more powerful than myself take over. It’s been my expression when words weren’t enough. And it’s allowed me to trust myself, to go back to the canvas and rediscover myself again and again.

My medium of choice is acrylic but I also appreciate the richness of oil and the freedom of watercolor. I am always amazed at the creative process, how you can begin with a blank canvas and some paint and create something that truly resonates with another person. I used to think that each painting was like my “baby” because I put so much of my heart and soul into it. As a result, it was hard to let go of my work. But since then, I have learned that I’m no longer creating for myself, but for others. My work is not my own, I’m only part of the process. I never know who might connect with each individual painting or why. Is it something I am putting out there? Is it energy or emotion? Is it something bigger? Regardless of the answer, I do know that it thrills me time and again to see what other people see in my artwork. To give them a piece of myself and my vision and encourage them to make their own personal connection. To see only what they can see. To take a piece of my artwork and make it theirs."
